Had some enquiries about these since Paul Weller was spotted in them – the target leather gloves by Frederick Sheppard.

To add to the confusion, the brand is generally known as Mabel Sheppard, but the men’s section goes under a separate brand of Frederick Sheppard, with both names being the grandparents of the actual maker (who isn’t called Mabel or Frederick, as you might have guessed).

Not that it matters. It’s the gloves that are worth talking about. For the men’s range, there is a selection of designs with a ‘timeless’ or ‘classic’ look, all using the know-how of the designer and her past work for luxury British brands. No, the gloves aren’t cheap. But they are made to last.

You can get stripes and checkerboards for the design, but the ones that seem to have caught the eye – perhaps because of Paul Weller’s patronage – are the target gloves you can see on this page.

Take your pick from black or brown leather, with each offering a target design that matches up with that choice of leather. Talking of the leather, the gloves are made from LWG-certified soft nappa leather, which guarantees that tanneries are environmentally managed, with the inside finished with a warm sleeve lining.

Each pair of gloves also comes in a fabric Frederick Sheppard logo drawstring dust bag.

If you want a pair, they retail for £49.
