First seen back in 1962, The Birth of Ska limited edition vinyl reissue brings the vibe back for 2019.

As far as I know (looking at the label website) this is a limited edition of just 750 (individually numbered) on vinyl and on heavyweight vinyl too. Oh and that vinyl is orange, which might well add to the appeal.

The album is all about the start of the ska movement and the work of Duke Reid, going back as far as 1952 when the music he oversaw was simply known as ‘Rhythm ’n Blues’, despite being a sound that was very much about the island of Jamaica.

It developed into what we now know as the ska sound – the beat of Jamaica influenced by the US soul of the day and became the sound of the island and the sound systems.

This respective ska album focuses on much of the work from those pioneering days and especially the sound of The Skatalites and Babba Brooks.

Get a copy while you can, with pre-orders on Amazon for £22.67. The album is released on 5th July 2019. Tracks below.
