The first design from a new women’s 1960s range, the Lucy 1960s-style dress by 66 Clothing is getting some new variations.
I have featured 66 Clothing in the past, which is an offshoot of the Mod Shoes label. Basically, it’s clothing inspired by the past and, in most cases, by classics (and more niche designs) of the 1960s.
It’s a popular and well-made range – I have a few items from it myself and got good wear out of them over the summer. But what it has lacked is a range of designs for women. That was addressed back in November when the Lucy dress first made its appearance.
Not that there’s a shortage of 1960s dresses out there at the moment. I pulled together a rundown of Mod and 1960s dressmakers some time back, and I recently wrote up a round-up of 10 of the best 1960s dresses at Joanie for the Retro To Go site. But it’s nice to see more labels entering the fray.
And it is good to see this first outing from 66 Clothing being popular enough to get some new variations on the shelves.
The standout detail for past and present designs is the cloth. First off, you just don’t see a lot of paisley around these days. In this case, you get a new version in green adding to the existing two shades of a tangerine or the more subtle black and white. The fabric itself is described as ‘super soft, stretchy and easy to wear’.
You might notice the other finish too. That’s a small check, which is a little more understated and, as such, might be a better option for general wear.
As for the style, that’s pretty versatile. Very much of the original era, it works well as a standalone or for layering up, pinafore-style, when it gets colder. Like now, for example. The photos show it off better than I can describe it.
The past designs are still available, selling for £49. The new designs launch on Thursday 28th March, presumably for the same price and available here.
