Actually, bot just out this week, Kill ‘Em and Leave: Searching for the Real James Brown by James McBride is actually hitting the shelves tomorrow.
Well, it is in hardback, as well as Kindle and audiobook versions. If you want the paperback you will have to wait until 2017. But I suspect that if you are a fan of JB, you might well fancy splashing out on the hardback version.
As for the book, it’s all about finding the ‘real’ James Brown, from what’s described as the ‘heartbreaking saga’ of Brown’s childhood and the ‘hidden history’ of Brown’s early years to the people who helped to create the ‘James Brown sound’, some of whom have been ‘lost to history’.
It also looks at what made James Brown’s music so special, taking in conversations with the friends and protégés whose lives were changed by the ‘Godfather of Soul’.
It’s a 256-page publication from W&N and as I said, available from tomorrow and available to order now. Amazon is doing the hardback for a discounted £16.59.
