It has been talked about for some time, but the Pauline Boty documentary is finally launching in June 2024.

Named simply Boty, the film will get its first airing at the Nevill Holt Festival in Leicestershire, with tickets now available for that first screening on Thursday, 13th June 2024.

Pauline Boty had become something of a ‘lost’ icon of the British pop art scene, with very little actually available about her for some time. You might recall I reviewed The Only Blonde In The World book, which at the time was the only book available, produced to tie in with a 1990s exhibition.

But that’s not the case anymore. The far more exhaustive Pauline Boty: British Pop Art’s Sole Sister by Marc Kristal is also now on the shelves, and if you are interested in the artist or the British pop art scene, it’s a must-read. Similarly, this documentary by Mono Media Films will be worth the effort too.

It’s the first-ever documentary/film to explore the fascinating life and times of the trail-blazing artist, celebrating the life of someone who is now considered one of the most important British artists of the 20th century.

The film documents the rise of Pauline Boty’s work, artistic reputation, and legacy after many years of relative obscurity in the British art world following her early death in 1966. With newly discovered pieces and footage of Boty acting on screen, this film promises to be the definitive portrait of one of Britain’s most vital and important artists.

If you can make the premiere, that is followed by a panel discussion featuring Dr Sue Tate, Natalie Gibson, Chila Kumari Singh Burman and Louisa Buck.

Alternatively, you can follow the idea of the documentary’s release on the Mono Media Films website. Also, check out the trailer here.
