A first-ever reissue for The Redskins – Neither Washington Nor Moscow on vinyl, plus a new CD boxset too.

The vinyl is black at pretty much every retailer. Except one. There is a limited edition red vinyl reissue, which is only available at Rough Trade as a pre-order and only in a run of 500. What I’m saying is that you want to get it ordered if you want it in your collection. Or just shop around for black vinyl.

The latest reissue comes complete with new sleeve notes by Redskins bassist Martin Hewes, and the CD boxset (should you go for that) includes a 68-page booklet with liner notes from Hewes and Redskins drummer Paul Hookham (who replaced original drummer Nick King in 1985) as well as additional words from Billy Bragg and Paul Morley.

If you’ve never heard their album then you are missing out as it’s a real gem. With an ambition to ‘sing like The Supremes and walk like The Clash’, The Redskins mixed anger and angst with soulful rhythms, setting them apart from most of their contemporaries.

The best-known tunes are the ridiculously catchy Keep On Keepin’ On!, the band’s only Top 40 Bring It Down! (This Insane Thing) and the prophetic Kick Over The Statues, which I remember picking up in the bargain bin for 10p back in the day.

They split in 1986, leaving this as their only studio recording.

If you want to re-live it, the coloured vinyl sells for £27.99, the four-CD box sells for £21.99 and black vinyl is also available, again for £27.99.

All are available to pre-order at the Rough Trade website.
