The first edition was phenomenally successful, so I would expect The Speakeasy Volume 2 to do good business as well.

If you missed the first volume, don’t worry, as the reprint is still available to buy online and it’s well worth picking up. A lovely read covering a wide range of Mod-related people and subjects.

This is what I would expect of the second volume too, which is available to pre-order in its first edition. In fact, if you get one of the first 100 copies, you’ll get it signed by both Mark Baxter and Rhoda Dakar, the first being the writer and the second the person behind the foreword.

You might know that Mark writes a weekly blog for Art Gallery Clothing and this is the printed version of it. At least, some of the highlights as Mark has been doing these short pieces since 2017.

25 articles have been selected for the 100-page book, this time covering:

GEORGIE FAME
RONNIE LANE
JOHN SIMONS
JOE ORTON
LEE MARVIN
QUADROPHENIA
JIMMY SMITH
THE STYLE COUNCIL – OUR FAVOURITE SHOP
LULU
PAUL NEWMAN
GARY CROWLEY
JAMES BROWN – LIVE AT THE APOLLO
ETTA JAMES
CURTIS MAYFIELD
THE CREATION
THE ACTION
SCOTT WALKER – SCOTT 2
MILES DAVIS
PAULINE BOTY
JULIE CHRISTIE
THE ARTWOODS
FREEMAN & PILLAR
PP ARNOLD
THE KINKS – SOMETHING ELSE
PETE MEADEN

All of which have been given added eyer candy by the illustrations of Lewis Wharton. It’s the kind of thing the Mod scene excels at. Niche literature in shirt runs that gets to the heart of the subject. In short, well worth picking up.

If you want a copy, you can pre-order ahead of the March publication date for the price of £16.
