Herb Lester vintage New York map

by Modculture 25 February, 2011

Remember the 1960s London map we featured a while back? Well, the same  Herb Lester Associates have produced another vintage-style map, going by the name of Where The Sidewalk Ends: How to find old New York.

This time, the imagery is the work of noted illustrator Jim Datz, with the content described as 'a guide to the New York you’ve always wanted to see but feared might have disappeared for good'. So if you want a walk in the wild side of the city, grab one of these.

Expect Edward Hopper diners and down-at-heel dive bars, overstocked grocery stores and mountainous pastrami sandwiches. From Patsy’s Pizzeria in Harlem, to the Nom Wah Tea Parlor in Chinatown, taking in along the way Katz's, the '21' Club and McSorley's Old Ale House to name just a few places. It is A3 (297x420mm) folded to A6 (105x148mm), and litho printed on recycled paper. Price? Just £3.

Paul Weller at Vauxhall Fashion Scout

by Modculture 23 February, 2011

I know a lot of you love a good Paul Weller snap, so here's a few of them, taking today at the D-Gnak fashion show at Vauxhall Fashion Scout.

Paul Weller was apparently there to watch his son Nat model some of the Korean designer's gear, wearing an orange cable-knit jumper. No doubt there will be a run on such things now, as there often is once Weller sports something.

More shots over the page.

by Modculture 22 February, 2011

Make a date in the diary, Thursday 23rd – Sunday 26th June is the date(s) of the 2011 Glasgow Mod Weekender.

Far too much to list here, so let's just say that it's a mix of social, live bands and club nights, with the likes of Frank Popp and Lee Miller guesting over the weekend behind the decks, while the live acts are headed up by Big Boss Man.

Check out the full schedule in the events section of the main Modculture site.

Pretty Green Paisley Print scarf

by Modculture 21 February, 2011

As regular readers will know, I'm loathe to talk up Pretty Green. But a bit of paisley always seems to go down well, so without further ado, let me introduce you to the Pretty Green Paisley Print scarf.

Perfect for a touch of dandyism, this is part of the 'Black Label' collection (which I'm guessing is slightly more high end), offering a silk, linen and modal mix construction, as well as that vintage-style paisley print. It's also described as being 'expertly finished', but as I'm not hands on, I can't really say if that's true or not.

Limited numbers, it sells for £75.
