Celebrating the label’s anniversary, The James Taylor Quartet – Mission Impossible red vinyl reissue is heading your way soon.
What anniversary, you ask? 35 years of Acid Jazz is the answer, and there have been a series of reissues to celebrate that fact. You might recall me mentioning the James Taylor Quartet – Money Spyder clear vinyl reissue that kicked it off. And to add some symmetry, another vinyl reissue from the same band ends the series.
I mentioned this last time, but Eddie Piller’s autobiography has a good section on this, which pretty much heralded the arrival of both band and label. So it is fitting that the label’s anniversary gives the vinyl another outing, this time in an eye-catching and collectable red vinyl finish.
You probably know (and might well own) the album already. I know I do. A funky tribute to classic soundtracks of the 1960s, courtesy of the former Prisoners keyboard player and his supporting cast of the time. This is the sound that really did kick the door open for Acid Jazz and the band, which is still touring to this very day.
Alongside Lalo Schifrin’s iconic title track appear tracks by Herbie Hancock, Paul Simon and Bacharach & David before the Taylor-penned original The Stooge closes it out. Track listing below; the release date is 19th January 2024, and the price is £23.
