Review: Bed Sitting Room at the NFT

by Modculture 26 May, 2009

Last week, the BFI and Flipside offered up a rare showing of 60s cult classic The Bed Sitting Room, bringing along cast member Rita Tushingham and director Richard Lester for a Q&A session afterwards.

The Scenester was there for the screening and the Q&A, taking notes for a review of both the event and the movie itself, which is released by the newly-launched Flipside label on DVD and Blu-ray today (25th May 2009).

Double Shot O' Soul launch party

by Modculture 22 May, 2009

The Sweet but Deadly collective are launching a new soul night in west London called Double Shot O' Soul.

The 50th anniversary of Tamla Motown in January has focused minds again on just how great the output of the big-hitters of the '60s soul scene was. This is never-gone-out-of-fashion music, and people always move their feet to it. And you can too, as at Double Shot you'll be hearing the best in Tamla Motown, Stax Records, club soul, & girl group songs from the period, all off original vinyl 45s. Your wax spinners on the opening night, Friday June the 5th, will be Smart Phil & Mickee.

The venue The Blagclub comes highly recommended, for it is a bijou Notting Hill bar above the bustling streets that has something of an updated Soho-gin-joint vibe to it.

Double Shot O' Soul
@ The Blagclub
68 Notting Hill Gate, London W11 3HT
(Above Ryman’s)
Directly outside Notting Hill Tube
Free before 9.30pm, £4 entry after

Liam Gallagher's Quadrophenia shoot

by Modculture 21 May, 2009

According to Liam Gallagher, his Pretty Green label is going to features the likes of desert boots, nice knitwear, quality clobber and 'none of that skinny stuff', which doesn't sound a million miles away from what we feature on here.

So it's no surprise to see the advertising campaign borrowing a bit from the world of mod too, specifically Quadrophenia if these images are anything to go by. They appeared on the Pretty Green site ahead of the label's full launch in June.

We're looking forward to it, especially if classic gear is the name of the game. See more images from the photoshoot over the page or check out the label's website via the link below.
